Mandy groaned when she heard the sound of the alarm bell, ringing. She instinctively smacked the other side of the bed. “Get that, Nicky,” she groaned again. But the alarm still persisted on.
And then she realised. There was no more Nicky. No more Nicky running around the house in the mornings, no more Nicky making her breakfast in bed. No more…
Mands opened her eyes to see whether it was all true. It was. The other side was left cold, empty, with only the smell of him to remind herself of him. Mands smacked the alarm shut and sat up in bed, her head pounding against her skull, screaming at her for not sleeping earlier yesterday night.
“Nicky…” Mands whispered, edging over to the other side of the bed and laid her head down on the pillow. His familiar smell surrounded her and entered her nose. She breathed in deeply, not wanting to forget the distinctive Nicky smell.
Deep in contemplation, she didn’t realise that her phone was ringing until after three rings. She scooted over to her side and picked up the receiver.
“Hello?” she stifled a yawn, trying to guess who was on the other line. Her first instinct was her mum.
“Dear? How are you hanging on sweetheart?” Spot on.
“I’m fine, Mum. I just woke up, got in late yesterday,”
“Well…I’m sorry to disturb you dear. But…” Silence.
“Yes Mum?” she wished the conversation would be faster.
“If…you need anything dear, don’t hesitate to call us or drop by, alright?” her mum sounded really worried.
“Yeah, sure Mum. I will.”
“Good.” Again, silence for a while. “Well, I’ve to move along now. I’ll see you sometime, dear?”
“Alright Mum. See you again.”
“I love you Mands.”
“I love you too, Mum.” And with that, she hung the phone up. ***** For the whole morning, her phone was bombarded with calls. Not wanting to hear the repetitive sounds of “I’m so sorry he’s gone” she decided to hook it up on the machine.
Suddenly a very familiar voice spoke on the machine. “Umm…hey Mands. I just got back from America and found out about Nix. I’m sorry. If you’re free, call me…or anything. I’d like to catch up with you, thanks.”
Mandy was actually sitting on the sofa, mopping around when the message came through. He’s back…she thought silently. Before she could think any more, her doorbell rang.
“I brought foodstuff,” Christine O’Connor, her best friend said just as she opened the door. “I know you wouldn’t have the mood to go out shopping,”
“Yeah, place it on the kitchen counter then. Thanks,” Mandy replied nonchalantly and returned to her position on the couch with Nicky’s sweatshirt. She could hear Chris rummaging through her kitchen cabinets, meaning that she’s helping Mands to place the food in the right places. Mandy quickly brought Nicky’s light blue sweatshirt to her nose, inhaling his scent. Placing the foodstuff into kitchen cabinets is-was- his job. Now she cannot rely on him any longer. Chris is the one helping her now. While Mandy was contemplating on the past, Chris’ phone rang. She picked it up.
“Hello, Chris speaking.”
“Hey,” It was Shane.
“Shay. Your sister’s nuts,” She sounded worried.
Shane sounded worried too. “Yeah, I know. And Mum’s been begging me to tell her about Mands’ condition. I can’t ‘cos I don’t honestly know. But now since you’ve told me, maybe I’ll use that as a reason,” Shane laughed weakly.
“I’m really worried for her. It’s been three months and I can tell you she hardly does anything now, even bathing,” Chris wrinkled her nose.
“I know. She can seem intimidating without a shower.” Shane chuckled alongside Chris.
“Yeah well. I’ve got to help her with her food. See ya later.”
“Oh! Before I forget, Chris, do you know that Mark’s back from USA?”
“Seriously.”
“Do I sound like I’m kidding?” Silence.
“Yeah, well, I think I’ll get back to you on that later,” Chris then ended her conversation with Shane. Now, the main thing is to move Mands’ arse to the bathroom and stuff her with the food she had brought from home.
***** After showering, Chris had to practically shove the food down Mands’ throat. She refused to see her friend wallow in sadness and definitely refused to see her so weak and fragile. Mands was always the skinny one between the two of them. Now she’s even skinnier. It broke Chris’ heart to see her friend almost being reduced to a skeletal state.
“I’m in no mood to eat,” Mands pushed her plate of lasagne towards Chris. “You finish it.” And with that, she rose from the table and sat down on the same old d**ned couch in the same old position in the living room.

The alarm bell went off, irritating Mands. She smacked the other side of the bed. “Nicky, switch it off!” She placed the pillow on her head to drown out the sound. The alarm bell stopped ringing. Then it went off again. After many shouts and smacks to Nicky afterward then she realised that her dear adoring Nicky was pulling her leg. She took away the pillow in frustration. “You!”
Nicky Byrne laughed. “I know you’re gonna wake up,” he had that knowing look on his face. Mands glared at him.
“Stop that! It’s noisy!”
“I won’t cos it’s soothing to my ears!”
“You bastard! Stop it right this instant!”
“Ooh…I’m scared!!”
Mandy started to giggle. The situation seemed so funny; they can be fighting over the most petty things imaginable.
“Oh Nicky…” she sighed and then laughed, throwing her arms behind his neck and lacing her fingers together. Nicky smiled and kissed her deeply. He then switched off the alarm clock. “Now, that’s better…”
***** “Mands?” It was Chris with a worried look on her face.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes,” she gave the automated answer. “No, you’re not.” Chris touched her shoulder.
“I miss Nickyyy…” Mands suddenly sobbed loudly.
“Hey…” Chris took her in a hug. “I know, I miss him too, he’s my friend as well.” She felt tears welling up in her eyes. She hugged the uncontrollably sobbing figure tightly.
“Why him?” Mands asked.
Mands’ question went unanswered.

hmm....thanks chel. but it'll be somewhat twisted in the later parts...
“Nicky…” Mandy touched her husband’s face. He looked nervous, as if wanting to tell her something but he can’t.
“Mands…” he took her hand in his, his face all serious. “I have something to ask of you,”
“Wh…what is it?”
“Do you love me?”
“Why of course, Nicky. Of course I love you.”
“Are you sure?” he looked into her eyes for confirmation.
“I’m sure of it.” Mands answered. “Why the sudden question sweetheart?”
“I…Nothing. I’m…I’m sorry, love.” He apologised.
“Tell me sweetheart, I promise I won’t yell at you or anything,” Mands smiled towards her husband.
“I…I don’t think we could be together anymore, Mands.” He said after a long pause.
“What?!” Mands was in shock. “Three years of marriage and all you can say is we’re not gonna be together anymore?” Her eyes watered as she feared the worse. “What happened Nicky?” Mands tried to will away her tears. “Did I do anything wrong?” she asked. “Is there another person involved in this?” she asked again after a moment’s silence.
Nicky looked at his hands and after some time, nodded. Mands’ tears slid down her cheeks.
“But…why, Nicky, why now? Why now when I’m totally head over heels in love with you, when I imagined of making a family with you, when I want to spend the rest of my life with you? Why?” she sobbed uncontrollably, covering her face with her hands.
“I don’t think I can do this anymore…” Nicky muttered incoherently. “I fell in love with another person Mands. I…” Nicky trailed off. “d**n.” He swore, punching his fist into the soft mattress. “She’s pregnant with my child, all right?!” he huffed. Mands’ eyes widened at every word he said. “She’s bloody pregnant.”
“Who…what?” Mands was confused. “Pregnant?” she looked on unbelievingly.
“Yes…pregnant. Four bloody months pregnant,” Nicky gritted his teeth and stood up. “I’m sorry I did this to you, you may seem like I’m a bloody bastard right now, but I can’t simply leave her hanging like that,” he took out his bags and started filling them.
”But…” she whispered. “Where will you go?”
“Why, to her house, of course,” Nicky replied as a matter-of-factly.
Mands kept silent, watching him pack his clothes into his bags. Nicky Byrne was leaving her- and she felt powerless to do anything. What a ‘good’ wife I am, she muttered to herself. The man whom she was-and still is- in love with from the time they were in secondary school until now was walking out of her life, completely. The man who understood her inner feelings, her thoughts; the man who made her laugh out loud even when she’s feeling down is leaving her. Not coming back, unless if she demanded him to stay true to her.
“Are you happy with…her?” Mandy asked him suddenly. Nicky looked back at her briefly and nodded, smiling slightly. “Good…that was what I wanted of you,” she replied back. “I’m happy for you.”
“Mands…?” Nicky looked at her questioningly. “Why are you acting like this, all happy for me and….stuff?” he suddenly stopped his packing and then sat beside her.
“Nix…” she began, wiping her tears. “Remember what I said the first night we made love?”
Nicky looked at her blankly. “Oh yes, Nicky?” he tried to lighten up the situation. Mandy chuckled for a while.
“No…not that. I said that I’d do anything for you, even though I have to sacrifice my own happiness. Now you’re happy with…”
“Amy.”
“Yes, Amy, and I’m happy that you’ve finally found someone you really, really love,” she finished. Nicky looked at her in shock.
“But…why Mands? Why do you sacrifice your happiness just to see me happy?”
“Simple, Nicky. Because I love you.”

omg so sorry chel (I guess you're the only one reading this) but I'll try to post more sometime after 20th Nov (cuz I'm having my final exams). But b4 that...let me give you more....justt a bit moree...
That was three months ago. This is now, the present world. Nicky was killed in a fatal car accident that left no room for survivors just after he left Mandy. But whatever that has happened, has happened. It was time to move on. But not Mandy; she was still trying desperately to hang on to every single memory that she has of Nicky. It scared her; she was almost forgetting how Nicky looked like, how his voice sounded. She would keep paying his mobile phone bill just to dial his number to listen to his voice on his answering machine. In other words, Mandy still couldn’t accept Nicky’s passing.
***** There was a resounding knock on the door that shook Mands back to reality. She passed by the mirror and tried to look more presentable, but failed. Giving up, she walked over to the door and opened it.
He still looked the same; every single inch of him. His dark brown hair that was casually styled danced around due to the wind blowing through them. His deep sapphire blue eyes still took her breath away even after all these years. His cheeks remained coloured pink; his lips are still the way she pictured them to be: soft and full. Finally, she found her voice.
“Mark…” she trailed off.
“Mands…” he smiled widely, showing off his prominent dimples. He took her in a bear hug. Mands started sobbing loudly, gripping his waist tightly and smelling in his expensive perfume.
“Mark…Nicky…acc…accident,” she sobbed.
“I know...” he whispered, caressing her hair. He had to carry her (plus his bags) inside. Once inside, he brought her over to the sofa and settled her in it, with him sitting beside her, not breaking their contact.
“I can’t do this alone, Mark…I can’t…” Mands whispered against his chest. She sobbed quietly, listening to Mark’s steady heartbeat. “I love him too much…”
“I know dear,” Mark began, running his other hand through his own hair, messing it up a little, “I was in shock when I heard the full story from Kian. I didn’t think he’d do something…like that to you…” he trailed off, his eyes falling upon a big portrait of Nicky and Mands’ wedding photo nestled comfortably on the bare wall. Mark heard Mandy sigh in resignation.
“Maybe we weren’t meant to be together,” she said finally, but Mark heard the distinctive tone of doubt in her words. “You were meant to be together, Mands. Why else did he marry you?” he asked of her, looking down.
“I honestly don’t know Mark. When he told me that he was in love with another woman…Amy, that is,” her voice turned to disgust, “he seemed so sure that he had made a huge mistake of marrying me…or something,” she sighed again.
The both of them continued to think silently, without disturbing each other. Mands thought of Nicky, while Mark was thinking about what he could do to make her cheer up once more. He came to a conclusion to make her feel better.
***** “Yeah…I know…alright…okay…” Kian Egan bit on the wrong side of his pencil. He scribbled down something illegible on his notepad and shut it with a resounding slam. “Yes…I’ll get back to you, thanks.” He pushed the red button on his mobile phone.
“Hey.” Mark Feehily said simply, nodding his head towards Kian’s mobile phone. “Business proposition?”
“Something along the line of that, yeah,” Kian grinned, resting his spectacles on his head. “Can I getcha anything?”
“Coke’ll do fine,” Mark replied back, collapsing on the sofa.
“Jet lag?” Kian offered him the drink. Mark nodded, sighed and rubbed his eyes with his thumbs. “So what’s new?”
Mark made a face. “Nothing,” he replied and then chuckled.
“Nothing? Surely you must have gained something during your trip to America. How’s your photography coming along?”
Mark sighed. “Jussttt greeeaatt…” he sighed again. Kian guffawed.
“Seems like you’re missing a certain someone around here…” Kian teased, enjoying Mark’s blush at the mention of that ‘certain someone’.
“Nah…I just miss all of ye,” he said. “That’s all,” he added quickly.
“She’s falling apart, Mark,” Kian started, turning serious. He sat on his swivel chair, backside front.
“Mandy?” Mark frowned. “What’s up? Did Nicky and her have a big fight?”
Kian looked over to Mark and sighed a deep, pitiful sigh. “Nicky’s passed away, Mark. She’s on the brink of madness,”
“WHAT?!” Mark sat up suddenly on the sofa, his eyes turning huge with each passing second. “Nicky..?! Dead…? When? How? Why? Whe-…”
“Whoa, whoa, calm down,” Kian replied. “He was caught in a fatal car crash. His car was rammed into by a tow truck and he was trapped underneath all that crushed metal,”
Mark just sat, silent, digesting every word Kian said. His mouth opened and closed, then opened again, then closed when he realised he had nothing to say.
“Violent, I know,” Kian shook his head. Mark had tears in his eyes and he tried to will them away.
Nicky was Mark’s best friend since secondary school. They practically grew up together. They went to clubs together, they partied together, they camped out together. Now Nicky is gone. Gone from the face of the Earth. No more Nicky to drink with, to party with.
“And there’s something else…” Kian began, clearing his throat, “that I think you should know. Everyone knows, except you,”
“Everyone?” Mark asked. Kian nodded hesitantly. “What is it?”
“Apparently…” Kian started, unsure of whether to continue or not.
“Go on…” Mark urged him.
“Apparently,” he said, “Nicky was seeing someone else at that point of time,”
“Seeing someone?” Mark was confused. “As in, romantically seeing someone?” his doubts were confirmed by Kian’s nod. “Oh.” He continued simply.
“He got her pregnant,”
“Who? Mands is pregnant?”
“No…not her. His woman,” Kian said in disgust. “He actually had packed his bags and was heading his way towards her house when he crashed,”
“He left Mands.” It was more of a statement rather than a question.
“Yes. He did. The nerve of him,” Kian said, part in anger, part in sorrow. “I thought he loves her,”
Mark couldn’t take it anymore. He excused himself from Kian’s house, ran straight to his car and drove off towards the direction of Mandy’s house.

I'm BACK!!!
Four
¡°Hey you,¡± Mark looked down at Mandy who was falling asleep in his arms. ¡°Let me bring you up,¡± he started to carry her.
¡°No¡¦no¡¦please, Mark,¡± she whispered, clutching his arms tightly. ¡°I just want to stay here with you¡¦I¡¯m too scared¡¦to¡¦sleep alone¡¦¡± she mumbled sleepily, dozing off in Mark¡¯s arms. Mark then placed her down on the sofa, covered her up with a blanket, and sat down, facing her.
***** ¡°Hey!¡± Chris exclaimed when she stepped into the living room. ¡°Shhh!!¡± Mark gestured by placing his index finger on his lips. He pointed to Mandy¡¯s sleeping form.
¡°Sorry,¡± she whispered. ¡°Been here long?¡± Mark nodded. ¡°I brought food for her again.¡±
¡°Why not I put my cooking skills to good use?¡± Mark rubbed his hands together. Chris¡¯ eyes lit up instantly.
¡°I missed your cooking!¡± she exclaimed softly.
¡°Good.¡± Mark grinned.
*****
Mandy woke to the smell of something wonderful coming out from the kitchen. Disoriented, she sat up on the sofa, scratching her head. ¡°Who could be cooking in the kitchen?¡± she asked herself softly. Then her eyes lit up. ¡°Nicky!¡± she almost yelled, dashing into the kitchen.
Her hopes were deflated by the image of Mark in the kitchen with Chris, laughing over some private joke that they shared.
¡°Hey you, you¡¯ve woken up already,¡± Mark turned his head towards the door. Mandy nodded and dragged herself to the countertop. She perched both her elbows on the countertop and rested her face in the palm of her hands.
¡°What¡¯re you cooking?¡± Mands asked, peeking into the pot.
¡°Pasta sauce. We¡¯re making spaghetti,¡± Chris said cheerfully before adding, ¡°Your favourite!¡±
Mands¡¯ eyes lit up. ¡°Well¡¦I am a little hungry after all,¡± she said, ¡°and, I miss Mark¡¯s cooking,¡±
Chris looked at Mark. ¡°See¡¦I told you she¡¯ll eat anything you cook,¡± she grinned. Mark laughed and nodded, returning to the pot to add in the herbs.
After cooking, they had quite a pleasant time eating. Mandy found out that she was seriously starving as she helped herself to a second plate of spaghetti.
¡°You eat like a monster,¡± Mark remarked to Chris¡¯ giggling.
¡°Well I do, actually. I didn¡¯t realise I was this hungry!¡± she replied, stuffing her face with more spaghetti.
¡°Thank you for that,¡± he answered, laughing, looking at her eagerly eating the food with gusto.
Five
¡°Mands does seem better now, doesn¡¯t she?¡± Kian whispered to Shane while keeping his eyes on Mands who was sitting together with Mark, laughing over some joke that they made. Shane nodded his head. ¡°I wonder what happened to that woman,¡±
¡°Amy?¡± Kian looked at him suspiciously. ¡°Mands told me,¡± Shane continued.
¡°Oh.¡±
¡°I heard from my friend, who¡¯s a friend of Amy¡¯s, she almost went crazy when Nicky died,¡±
¡°What about the baby?¡±
¡°Hopefully it¡¯s fine.¡± Shane said worriedly. ¡°Mands had never met her before, but I saw her at the funeral service,¡±
¡°Seriously,¡±
¡°Yeah. She was the one who looked withdrawn, do you remember her?¡±
¡°Oh yeah. She seemed¡¦creepy,¡± Kian shivered at the thought. ¡°I didn¡¯t know she was his type,¡± he answered again, while writing something on his notepad.
Shane looked over. ¡°What in the world are you writing, Ki?¡± he looked into Kian¡¯s notepad and suddenly ruptured into a laugh. All over his notepad were the words, ¡®Ki ¢¾ Jodi 4eva¡¯.
Kian blushed in embarrassment. ¡°Hey, I love her, okay.¡±
¡°Fine, fine. Why not I¡¯ll leave you to your¡¦um¡¦declarations of love while I scoot over to where Mands is,¡± Shane stood up. He chuckled when Kian gave him a resounding smack on his bottom.
¡°Good. Move your arse along and don¡¯t bother me,¡± he said, continuing to scribble inside his notepad.
*****
¡°Mands, Mark,¡± Shane greeted them as he sat down on the couch.
¡°Hey Shay,¡± Mands replied, smiling at him. Even though Kian said she looked happier, Shane could not help but see a hint of sadness in her eyes.
¡°What¡¯s Kian doing? His business proposition again?¡± Mark asked Shane while looking at Kian.
¡°Business proposition? More like marriage proposal,¡± and then Shane launched into the story of what he saw in Kian¡¯s notepad. Both Mark and Mandy laughed out loud.
¡°Aww¡¦how sweet,¡± Mark remarked. Shane sblack personed.
¡°Hey Mands, I was thinking, because we¡¯re really free the next few months, why not you join us?¡±
¡°Where?¡± she asked.
¡°Around the world¡¦travelling, shopping¡¦it can do you some good to get some fresh air for once,¡± Shane replied, hoping that she will agree.
¡°Alright!¡± Mands clapped her hands together and began rubbing them. ¡°Where are we going first?¡±
¡°France.¡± Shane said. Mandy¡¯s face fell.
France was the country that she and Nicky honeymooned in.

*laughs* here you go!! (if there are weird symbols, please dont mind them lol)
***** At the airport, the lads and their girlfriends plus Mandy were lounging around near the checkpoint area when a woman suddenly approached them. Mands heard an ‘oh no’ from Shane and Kian, who was scribbling in his notebook (again), froze.
“I know you!” the woman screeched, pointing her finger at Mandy. She had long blonde hair, sharp features and she was pregnant. She had an air of aloofness that Mands found unsettling. “You killed my Nicky!”
“Me…?” Mands whispered. Then she gasped. “Amy…?”
“You killed my Nicky! You paid a tow truck driver to run into his car!!!” she screamed uncontrollably, lunging for Mands’ throat. By now, most of the people in the airport were looking towards their direction.
“You killed Nicky! Now you’re going to pay for it!!!!” she screamed running towards Mandy. Shane quickly stood up and tried to stop the woman from attacking.
“Hey…hey! Calm down will you?!” Shane bellowed, gripping Amy’s arms tightly.
“Amy…Amy!” a man ran through the crowd and towards Amy. “Where have you been? And you! Why are you holding my wife like that?!” the man took hold of Shane’s wrist.
“She tried to kill my sister, that’s what!”
“Kill your sister?” he smirked. “What an excuse.” Turning to Amy, he said, “You’re okay, right, Amy? He didn’t hurt you?”
“She…she tried to attack me,” Amy told her husband fearfully while pointing an accusing finger at Mandy. “She was saying such mean things about me and the baby,” she caressed her stomach.
“Here, here…don’t worry, let’s get out of this d**ned airport,” he soothed her and glared at Mandy, who was sitting down on the seat, shocked still. “And you, lady…whatever were you trying to do to my wife and my baby?” he spat, holding on to Amy’s shoulders and guiding her through the dispersing crowd.
“That’s the woman Nicky fell in love with?” Gillian Filan asked. Shane smacked his wife’s shoulder and gestured her to keep quiet.
“But why did he say ‘my baby’? I thought it was Nicky’s?” Jodi Albert asked to no one in particular.
“Or…she didn’t tell Nicky that she’s married.” Kian replied. “Did you see how good of an act she put up just now?”
“And then she might just claim that the baby is Nicky’s when all the while it’s her husband’s…” Shane trailed off.
“But why would she do that?” Mark finally found his voice after some time.
“Remember how much Nicky has in his bank account?” Shane asked him back. All of them looked on.
“Well…she does look like a freeloader,” Kian said. “I’m sure she’d do anything to get hold of his money,”
“Can we just stop all these accusations, please? I’ve heard enough of it!” Mandy remarked loudly, catching hold of their attention. “’Excuse me, I need to go to the ladies,” she huffed and walked off towards the washroom. Mark started to follow her.
Mandy locked herself in the toilet cubicle and cried. She played with her wedding ring on her fourth left finger.
“Nicky…” she whispered silently to herself. “I feel so alone Nix…I’m scared…” she sobbed quietly. “Look what you’ve did, Nix…that Amy woman came after me, claiming I killed you…but I didn’t Nicky, honestly, I didn’t-…”
“Mands?” she heard Mark’s soft voice.
“Mark?” she replied, alarmed. She wiped her tears away. “What are you doing in here?”
“I let myself in. Now come out, please,” he begged. Mandy opened the cubicle door slowly. Mark stood there, arms held out to her. She ran into them.
“Mark…I seriously didn’t do all those, please believe me Mark,”
Mark caressed her hair. “I believe you, sweetheart. I know you wouldn’t do something like that,” he said, placing his chin on her head. “Come, let’s wash you up and then we’ll head back to the guys,” Mands nodded in agreement.
Six
The guys and girls travelled around for the next month or so, shopping, sightseeing, living the high life. Mandy realised that she enjoyed herself tremendously, especially with Mark by her side. He tried his best to keep her happy and in a laughing mood; and most of the time he succeeded.
*****
“Err…Mands?” Mark rocked on the balls of his feet.
“Yes, Mark?” she looked up from her work.
“Can…can I talk to you for a sec?”
“Sure, Mark.” She got up from her seat and followed Mark outside the office.
“I’m not sure how to start this…” he mumbled, fiddling with his fingers.
“Start what, Mark? What do you want to tell me?”
“I…” he took a deep breath. “I love you, Mands,”
“Excuse me?” Mandy looked at him disbelievingly. “Did I hear you right?”
“Ye…yes. I…I’m in love with you,” Mark said, looking straight into her eyes. Mands felt trapped. His eyes were full of hope, full of longing, full of anticipation, waiting for her to accept his love.
nuts. How am I supposed to get out of this? She wondered silently.
“Mark…” she began, “I thank you for being brave…but…” she struggled to find the right words.
“I know…you still prefer Nicky, right?” his eyes fell upon Nicky’s hunched figure inside the office, going through some paperwork for their merchandise sales.
“Mark…please don’t get this the wrong way…”
“I understand Mands. At least you know my feelings. I’m sorry to take up your time. I’ve gotta go,” he mumbled quickly and ran off, leaving Mands there to entertain her guilty thoughts.
*****
“Mands?” Mark approached her. “Penny for your thoughts,”
“I was just thinking about the past, that’s all,” Mands answered, facing him who was sitting next to her on the sandy beach.
“The past?”
“Your declaration of undying love,” Mands giggled at the reaction of his face.
“Hey,” he felt embarrassed. “I was not thinking straight,”
Mands snorted. “Yeah, right.” On a serious note, she continued, “I’m sorry I rejected your love, Mark,” she said sincerely.
But Mark did not answer her. Instead, he was looking- gazing, rather- into her eyes. Mands held her breath, anticipating what was coming next. d**n those blue eyes of his, she cursed. His eyes were like some kind of magnetic force that Mands could not tear away from. Without her realising, she had slipped her arms behind his neck as he deepened the kiss.
“Oi…Shane, look,” Kian smacked his friend on the chest.
“What?” Shane replied, irritated. “What the hell?” he continued after seeing Mandy and Mark locking lips.
“What the hell is the right answer,” Jodi said, amazed by the drama unfolding in front of her very own eyes.
“Wow. Feehily definitely scored on this one,” Gill replied, standing up. “Remember last time he used to trail Mands around like a faithful puppy? Whatever she wanted he would definitely gladly help to get it for her,”
“I don’t think I like what’s going on…for now,” Shane snapped back, anger rising.
“Let them be, Shay. They’re adults, they know how to handle themselves,” Kian reassured him.
“I just don’t want the both of them to get hurt in the end. Mandy’s still not accepting the fact yet,” Shane mentioned about Nicky’s passing.

“Mark…Mark!” she asserted force in her tone of voice. Mark stopped kissing her, looking down, feeling embarrassed.
“I…I’m sorry,”
“Stop it!” Mands shook her head violently. “This…this is a mistake. Big mistake,” she continued.
“But…”
“I…” Mands was lost for words. Without looking at Mark, she took her blanket and decided to join the rest of the group.
What Mandy did not see were Mark’s tears falling down and leaving a wet trail down his cheeks.
“I love you Mands,” Mark whispered, covering his face with his hands. “I really do.”
*****
“Mark! We’re going out for dinner!” Mark heard Kian yell through the door.
“I’m not in the mood, Ki!” he shouted back. Kian frowned. Mark was always the first one to be excited at the mention of the word ‘food’.
“If you say so then!” Kian yelled back, walking away. He half expected Mark to just burst out from his room going, “I’m starving!” But nope, Mark didn’t even open the door a slightest inch.
“Mands?” Shane, at the same time, called out to his sister.
Mandy was lying, face down on the bed, drowning out the noise around her with the tunes of Westlife blasting in her eardrums.
“Mands?” Shane yelled again, pounding on the door that separates them. “We’re going out for dinner! Come on!”
Mandy sat up in bed, thinking she was hearing things. “Did someone call out my name?” she whispered to herself, looking around. With a shrug, she took off her earpiece and switched off her MP3 player.
“MANDY FILAN!!!” Shane bellowed, pounding on her door again till it threatened to break.
Mandy ran to the door and opened it. She frowned. “WHAT?!!” she yelled back into her brother’s face.
Shane grimaced. “We’re going out for dinner. I called out to you but you weren’t listening!” he replied back, his voice rising a little. Mands then remembered that she was listening to music.
“Oops. Sorry, I was caught up doing something,” she grinned. “Food, you say?”
“Yeah. We’re getting hungry. Let’s go,” he held out his hand to her.
Seven
“Where’s Feehily, mate?” Shane asked Kian who approached them, obviously ‘empty-handed’.
“He didn’t wanna come down for dinner,” Kian shrugged, looking over at Mandy to see her reaction.
Mandy squirmed in her seat uncomfortably. Jodi laid her hand reassuringly on Mands’ hand. “Don’t worry, Mands. Mark’ll come around sooner or later.”
“Well, I guess we have to start off without Mark then.” Shane said, making the first move.
