Chris: 'I dream about Westlife'
CHRIS MARTIN has come out as a fan of Oirish balladeers WESTLIFE.
I am stunned.
I always had COLDPLAY down as a band who soaked up inspiration from stadium-slaying rock legends like U2 and OASIS.
It’s hard to believe that mid-Nineties boyband dross such as 5IVE, 911 and Da Loif even figure on their radar.
In a startling turn of events frontman Chris admitted: “I dreamt about RADIOHEAD last night and Westlife the night before. Which is the perfect blend of what we’re trying to do musically.”
Expect standing up from his stool when the key changes on the next tour.
Huge
I can just imagine SIMON COWELL salivating at the prospect of supervising a Rat Pack-inspired Coldplay revamp.
Boyband revelations aside, Chris went on to reveal he is still plagued by insecurity - despite clearly being the singer of Britain’s biggest and best band.
He added: “I always dream about other musicians. And they’re never interested in hanging out with us.
“It’s like being at school and the bigger boys don’t want to play with you.”
This from the man who counts music luminariesBONO, NOEL GALLAGHERand JAY-Z as personal chums.
He continued: “I can’t believe we’ve got away with becoming this huge band. And we still haven’t done anything I think is that good yet.”
Once you hear new album Viva La Vida, out on June 12, you will realise that this is unnecessary modesty.
It gets better with each listen.
Despite the hysteria surrounding the release, and Coldplay’s previous multi-platinum success, the group have surprisingly never topped the singles chart. And Chris is keen to address this.
He told Q magazine: “I want us to make the best No1s in the world - and we’ve never had any.”
To get over pre-album release nerves, the lads have a new stress-busting regime.
They have been challenging each other to perform daredevil trampolining tricks on the set of their new video.
At least it’s safer than smoking crack or driving fancy motors into swimming pools...
