MEL C LAYS INTO WESTLIFE, ROBBIE AND GERI
News that Westlife's 'Coast To Coast' is outselling the Spice Girl's album, 'Forever', by two-to-one has been greeted by a torrent of abuse directed at the Irish singers and contemporary pop in general from Mel C. Mel, who is known to be suffering from depression, also directed her wrath at Robbie Williams and former bandmate Geri Halliwell.
"Robbie is just a cabaret singer - everyone's getting sick of him," she said speaking at the launch of the Spice Girls' album. "I'm sure he was shagging Geri - do you think she's got talent? I don't." When conversation turned to current chart rivals Westlife, Mel didn't spare them, saying: "They're a useless bunch of talentless tossers - a bunch of tits. They don't deserve to be in the charts let alone number one - I think it's disgusting bands like A1, STEPS and Westlife get to number one. It's all crap."
However, Mel confessed that she expected the Westlife album to outsell 'Forever', saying: "We don't care if they beat us to number one - they probably will but it sums up how nuts music is at the moment." Mel C joins a growing list of pop luminaries, including Bono, Damon Albarn and George Michael, who have recently chosen to speak out about the perceived current sterility of the music industry.

WESTLIFE: WE'RE GONNA THRASH YOU October 2000 - sun.co.uk
Oh no! Not more band trashing! Well, here's the latest offering to the Spice Girls 'thing'. Let's hope they won't literally trash them, considering the rumours going around! Here's the article, along with the phone numbers to call!
"CLUBBERS watched astonished as Posh Spice launched a withering verbal assault on Westlife's Kian Egan. The outburst was the first salvo in the battle between the Spice Girls and the boy band, whose albums are released head-to-head on November 6. Victoria stormed up to the bemused singer in London's trendy Chinawhite and threw down the gauntlet, snarling: "You've been very lucky with your No1s. Your single sales have been very low and we're going to trash you when the album's released. Don't mess with us girls or you'll get hurt."
A stunned Kian said: "She just came up to me and had a bit of a go. I was quite surprised but I'm not worried. Our album is the best thing we've done. I think it's a much better buy than the Spices. We'll just have to wait and see what happens."
Westlife manager Louis Walsh joined the fight last night by claiming: "The Westlife album has got better vocals than the Spice Girls album, it's more soulful and basically it's going to sell a lot more records. It's going to be absolutely massive."
Posh ought to be careful. The last time she threw down the gauntlet it was to Sophie Ellis Bextor and Spiller - and she got her fingers badly burnt. Both bands are desperate to be No1 at Christmas. Yesterday I gave you my verdicts on the albums. The Spice Girls will be hoping their grown-up R&B will win over festive shoppers, while Westlife are playing to their major strengths - ballads.
