quite long, right? hehe... enjoy... ;D

2000 is the year Westlife say they'll make it big in America, even if it means leaving their beloved Irish shores for months at a time. But why should they succeed where so many others have failed? Cos what Westlife wants, Westlife gets ...
Worldpop: How much time will you spend in America this year?
Shane: We're going to spend a lot of time there but not too much time cos we still want to concentrate on England, Ireland and the rest of Europe. But this is the year we have to break it so we'll probably spend 60 per cent of the year in America.
Worldpop: Why did you choose to shoot a new video for Swear It Again, your first release in America?
Shane: The video wasn't good enough for America that we did for Europe. The Americans didn't like it and they wanted a better video. It's a year old as well, so a lot of people would've seen it through the Internet already. We wanted a new vibe for America, it's the best thing to get us off the ground in America and Nigel thingy is the best choice for director. He did Baby One More Time for Britney Spears as well as Sometimes and Crazy. He's done loads of videos, Backstreet Boys videos as well.
Nicky: It's amazing that we've had six singles out and we've shot eight videos for them. The first Swear it Again video was never used, they didn't like it so we shot another one. Then the two for the Christmas singles, and of course Flying Without Wings and If I Let You Go, then Fool Again and one for America for Swear It Again. So we've actually shot three videos for Swear It Again!
Worldpop: What will be your second single in the States?
Kian: It's either going to be a new song called Private Movie, or Can't Lose What You Never Had. They're two songs we recorded especially for America, one of them's on our album in the UK. Private Movie was a song we recorded especially.
Worldpop: Will your UK fans get to hear that new song?
Kian: I think they will eventually, obviously when we do a video for it they'll be showing it on MTV, but I don't think it'll be released here as a single.
Worldpop: You look set to get your fifth consecutive Number One, which would break the record B*Witched hold for chart toppers from a debut album. Are you feeling confident?
Kian: We're very nervous about it actually, there's a lot of pressure on us. We've had four Number One singles which is more than we ever dreamed of and if we do get this Number One it'll be amazing for us. Of course we'd love to have it, but we won't be too disappointed because look at the success that we've had so far. As long as we get into the top three, we're quite happy. We always aim for a top three record, not necessarily Number One.
Worldpop: Why did you decide to be the faces for the Disney Channel Kids Awards this year?
Bryan: Cos Mark was sleeping with Minnie Mouse!
Nicky: We're backing the awards because we're in a great position at the moment cos kids look up to us, if our name is mentioned in the paper they glance at it to see what it's about. Disney helped us out great at the start and we're all big fans of Disney, the awards especially because the kids themselves get to nominate acts and organise it.
Kian: Disney are a great help to us trying to break America, as well as the UK and Europe. We might be doing a Disney special as well, which is fantastic.
Worldpop: The newspapers have printing some nasty words between you and Five, what's all that about?
Nicky: We don't know to be honest with you. What was said in the Sun newspaper didn't come from our camp. We don't know if it has been said, we don't know if it's been made up.
Mark: There were a lot of things in the paper that we supposedly said that we didn't, so we could just assume the same thing about them.
Nicky: We actually do get on with them, when we see them there's no bickering. Maybe behind our backs we don't know, but to our faces there's no bickering. We wouldn't say we're very, very close friends, but we're not enemies.
Bryan: The paper said they were quotes from the Five camp and quotes from the Westlife camp but the funny thing is it's actually the same camp. Everyone who works with us, works with Five.
Kian: It's the same record company, the same A&R man - that's probably why this all started in the first place - people say there must be rivalry within the camp.
Worldpop: Why do Westlife keep getting Number Ones when other boy bands find it so difficult?
Bryan: It's cos we're Irish!
Mark: Guinness!
Shane: A lot of people say why are you doing so many ballads, but like you said, it's worked for us and we've got four Number One hits, whereas a lot of people have done uptempos and they haven't got the Number Ones. I think we've gone to a wider market straight away, we've gone to every age group. If you've got an uptempo track you're only going to appeal to a certain amount of people. And we wanted to broaden our audience straight away like Boyzone have done over the last couple of years, they crossed over. We crossed over from our first single, which was a good move to make. It was a bit of a worrying move cos we didn't know if it would work or not, but it has worked. We'd like to do something uptempo or midtempo for the next single, to change it a bit, for the summer maybe. But we're not ever going to change that side of Westlife cos it is a working formula.
Bryan: I think the reason we've had four Number Ones is cos we've had four Number One songs. Not because we're a band that gets Number Ones, but because the four songs that went Number One were Number One records. No other reason really!
