Huge crowds gather to see Shane open store - and it’s a case of deja-vu for the Westlife star
THE last time Westlife singer Shane Filan opened the doors of this premises it was the start of a fashion store for him and his older sister Mairead.
That was Wednesday, October 16, 2002 when the doors of Morgan were opened on Castle Street. Huge crowds waited for hours to see the Westlife star. Right throughout the day Shane spent his time signing autographs and posing for photographs with fans both old and young.
And interestingly before it became the Morgan fashion house, Shane’s parents Mai and Peter ran it as the Carleton Café for over 30 years.
Now, over four years on, and Shane is back again to open the same doors, this time for a new business, Centra.
A few months ago, the Filans moved its Morgan franchise over to the Quayside Shopping Centre. This left the way open for a new business to occupy the vacated premises on Castle Street.
Over the past number of months, Cosgroves of Centra have been busily preparing to open their new store offering customers on this side of town a new service.
Westlife recently finished a run at the Point Theatre in Dublin. Now the band is taking a rest after their hectic schedule.
Shane will turn 28 on July 5. And on Monday, July 23, Shane's daughter Nicole will celebrate her second birthday. Shane and wife Gillian refused all offers of photographic deals when Nicole was born and when they got married.
Floods of offers are expected again as Nicole turns two. But, Shane has adamantly stated in the past that he will not agree to any deals from magazines for photographs of his family.
