Title: Marriage
Pairing: Shane/Nicky, of course
Rating: 'Cleanest' slash fic ever
Note: The only homosexual content essay I've ever written in school. Pretty short though.
The pastor's face was unblinking and solemn and his voice resounded against the silence of the chapel. Shane found it hard to focus on what the pastor was saying. His heart was thumping against his chest so rapidly and he could feel another trickle of sweat on his back. He knew he should have insisted on something less thick. Behind him, he could hear the soft whispering and the occasional shuffling of the feet of his guests.
thingying his head slightly to his right, he stole a glance at the woman standing beside him. Gillian, with her long, flowing white satin dress and a gleaming tiara on her head, she looked beyond amazing. They had known each other since they were twelve and had dated briefly during their teenage years. Shane's mother adored her and it seemed only a matter of time that Shane would finally marry her. And he did.
Gillian was everything a woman should be. She placed her family before her career and she supported Shane and all his choices. But Shane did not love her. He did but not so much that would make him want to spend the rest of his life with her. She was not the one that Shane anticipated to wake up to every morning. She was not the one that Shane envisioned himself of growing old with. But there was nothing he could do about it. He did not dare go against his mother's wishes - imagine the outrage that would cause! He knew Gillian's love for him was genuine and he berated himself for not being able to love her as much.
Shane knew he would never spend the rest of his life with the one he truly loved. He knew this was a game of charade that he would have to keep up with. That he would eventually become a father and forever be a doting husband. The pastor's words brought him out of his daze. "You may now kiss the bride." Managing a smile at the beaming face of Gillian, he bent and placed a kiss on her lips. He took a last glance at Nicky, his best friend and confidante, his pillar of strength. The love of his life. And when the tears flowed down his cheeks, he pretended that it was of indescribable joy.
