Westlife boys spare a moment for their No.1 fans from Carlow
THEY MIGHT have been tired but Irish pop sensations Westlife still made time for their loyal fans from Carlow.
Lucky cousins, eight-year-old Shania Carr from Idrone Park, seven-year-old Shannon Coakley from John Sweeney Park and ten-year-old Brandon Redmond from Riverview Close, Carlow town, chanced upon a meeting with the famous band on a flight back to Dublin recently.
The three were returning from a family get-together in Leeds where they were celebrating the 70th birthday of their aunt Kathleen Kenny, originally from Tullow.
The three Carlovians were lucky enough to be the only children on the plane and so were treated to some time with the Westlife boys.
“We did hear that someone had seen them being snuck onto the plane and when we were going to get our seats they were sitting at the front but we were told that they were too tired to speak to anyone,” said Shania’s mum, Tracey Carr.
“Once the plane got off the ground the kids went up to them anyway and they were very good to them. They got their pictures taken and they autographed Shania’s High School Musical book. I think they realised there were no more children on the plane so they made an exception,” she said.
The only blight was that one of the band members refused to speak to the young Carlovians. Sligo man Kian Egan pulled his hood over his head and went to sleep but his fiancée, former Hollyoaks actress Jodie Albert, more than made up for his bad behaviour.
“She was absolutely lovely and was very apologetic about Kian but she chatted away to the kids instead,” said Tracey.
“The children were absolutely delighted and it was a real treat for them, they are lovely lads.”
