SHANE, NICKY, MARK AND KIAN TALK LOVE AND MARRIAGE, AMY AND POSH- AND REVEAL WHOS THE BEST DRINKER AND COOK.
Good grief we knew those Westlife boys were a bunch of hunks but just look at them in these pictures! We have to admit there were a few brows that needed mopping in the OK! office when we saw the results of our exclusive shoot with he boys on the River Thames. And to make them even more lustful they’re just as delicious in the flesh and lovely lads to boot.
If you can believe it, Westlife have been together for nearly 10 years, and in that time they have crooned many a ballad, hit many a high note on their infamous key change and collaborated with the likes of Lulu, Mariah Carey and Diana Ross.
Their private live have been just as successful. Nicky Byrne, 29, and Shane Filan, 28, are both happily married and have already started families, while Kian Egan, 27, has been dating gorgeous Jodi Albert for nearly 5 years. Seven years in to the bands career, in 2005 Mark Feehily, 27, came out as gay and admits it’s been the best thing he ever did: 'My life got umpteen times better. It’s changed things totally and I feel so much happier and at ease. I’m gay and proud of who I am' he’s now made a happy home with model and singer Kevin McDaid.
At the moment the boys are back on the scene with a new song, Home, a cover of Michael Buble’s hit song. Here we find out about how they deal with home sickness when they’re on tour, why Mark is the best member to go the lash with and what they think of the Spice Girls reunion.
Kian, you and Jodi are always being asked if you are getting married- do that sort of thing affect you?
Jodi and I have always ket very normal. We stayed away from all the media attention because we never wanted to be a celebrity couple. When Jodi was in Hollyoaks it would have been easy to show up at every red carpet event, but that’s not who we are.
Mark, are you and Kevin ever going to get married?
We would if we ever get to that point where we wanted to. Kian and I get asked all the time and we probably will until we do. But honestly if the situation does change, I’m sure we'll be so happy we'll be telling everyone in sight.
What do you think of the Spice Girls reunion?
NICKY: I think it’s great. I haven’t heard great reviews for their single, but everyone loves the Spice Girls. Victoria was the sexiest and Emma was always very cute. Victoria looks different now though and, although she’s still got sex appeal, I think she looked better in the 2 become 1 video. I met her and she’s a great girl.
Their video for Headlines is quite saucy considering its for Children In Need...
NICKY: I haven’t seen the video but I saw the picture of Victoria in the papers. It’s a shame that how saucy Victoria looks is more important than Children In Need.
You’ve always had a clean cut image, but with people like Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse dominating the papers, its not that way anymore...
NICKY: There have always been rock n roll elements to pop bands but 15 years ago- it just didn’t make the papers. Now it’s the only thing people talk about.
MARK: I’ve been a big Amy Winehouse fan for years- way before anyone had really heard of her. It’s sad because I’ve met her and she’s a lovely, intelligent, nice person, but the person you read about is the bleeding, drunk, drugged up Amy Winehouse. There’s a lot more to her.
Looking like that does set a bit of a bad example when she’s considered a role model don’t you think?
NICKY: With Amy, it’s a case of if she has a problem she needs help. That’s the only sad part for me. But it’s not ok in my opinion to look and absolute wreck.
You boys have been together for nearly a decade and must know each other inside out. So who’s the easiest person to wind up?
KIAN: Nicky. He defiantly gets the most frustrated. But Shane is very easy to wind up.
Who’s the best drinking partner?
NICKY: Shane is a completely different person when he’s drunk. He is very funny when he’s had a drink.
KIAN: It would fall between Mark and Shane but id give Mark the upper hand. When Mark and I go out we still act as though we're 19.
Who’s the best listener?
NICKY: I think because Shane is a dad too we have good chats about family stuff. Shane’s on my page where that stuff is concerned.
SHANE: Nicky and I have some good chats about being dads- about everything really.
MARK: Nicky’s great to go to for a rant.
Whose house would you most likely go to for home cooking?
MARK: I’d say if you wanted to stay alive then Kian. If you don’t mind dying then Shane! But I’m lucky. Kevin is a great chef- it’s like having Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen.
Who’s the most vain?
KIAN: that’s becoming a very big thing in Westlife! It’s not about who takes the longest to get ready, its more who’s the fussiest about pictures once they’ve been taken. But I don’t care. I look the way I look bad that’s that.
The new single Home is about being away from the people closest to you. How do you cope when you’re on tour?
MARK: We make sure we don’t spend too long away. It used to be months on end but now the record company know that if we don’t have a weekend off here and there there'll be a row.
NICKY: We have spent a lot of time abroad in the past but nowadays I try to make sure Georgina and the boys are with me. But if they can’t then you just have to get on with it.
What do you miss most when you are away from home?
KIAN: as much as it’s really hard to be away from my family and Jodi, I deal with it by getting out and exploring. So if we're somewhere new I get up and go investigating about the place.
SHANE: I miss my family and that’s why I take them away. I can’t be away from them for long at all otherwise I literally go off my head!
