Hero Shane shells out whopping €400.000 for school extension.
By Paddy Clancy
WESTLIFE singer Shane Filan is to gift a €400.000 extension to the school where his children will start their education.
Scoil Naomh Eanna in Carraroe, Co Sligo, has reached an agreement with Shafin, the development company owened by the singer and his brother Finbarr.
The extension of almost 400 square metres will include three classrooms, a resource room and toilets onto the school, which is just across from Shane's home.
Two portakabin classrooms will be demolished to make way for new play area - and best of all, Shane and his brother will absorb the cost themselves.
School Principal Deasun Lyons said yesterday that in return for the extension the school will not object to a proposal for a nearby huge retail and residential development to be built by Shafin.
The school was among a number of objectors to original plans for the development but will now agree to it after Shafin introduced changes to the height of the centre, as well as the location of the car park away from the school.
Delighted
Mr Lyons said the agreement on the revised plans was reached during several months of negotiations.
He added: "We're delighted. Now, it's fingers crossed that it will all go ahead."
Shane's three-year-old daughter Nicole will start at Naomh Eanna in two years and her tiny brother Patrick Michael will join her in five.
