‘Georgina Deserves All The Credit,’ Says Nicky – 24 April 2007
HE LOOKS remarkably fresh faced for a new dad but then, the hard bit hasn't started yet.
In fact, it looks like Westlife star Nicky Byrne hasn't been able to stop beaming since the unexpected early arrival of his twin sons last Friday.
Standing on the steps of Holles Street with yet more presents for the boys Rocco and Jay, Nicky was only too happy to stop and give the thumbs-up for the cameras.
After a rollercoaster few days for the 26-year- old and his wife Georgina, 27, he is still coming to terms with the enormity of becoming a father for the first time.
'To be honest, I haven't stopped smiling,' he told reporters.
'We are together since we were 16, it's one of the blessings of our relationship.' Fears the infants who arrived seven weeks early and are being looked after in incubators may be struggling were dismissed by Nicky.
Instead, he was full of praise Caesarean: Georgina Ahern for Georgina who is recovering well after a Caesarean section.
'Obviously, it is a bit sooner than expected but the lads are doing great and they're keeping well.
Georgina is in fine form now, it's all good. She deserves all the credit.'
He also revealed how he had to make a dramatic dash across town to Holles Street after Georgina went into labour. 'We went in the day before and they did a couple of scans on Georgina. And they kept her in for observation for 24 hours.
'I did the first show at the Point and I came back to her and then I went home at around 1am. And about 6am she called me and said she was getting a little bit uncomfortable and was in a bit of pain.' Speaking on 2FM he said: 'So I flew back to her and then all of a sudden then, we were rushed up and everything was kind of done and dusted.
'Obviously it was a shock but not so much an alarm. They weren't in any distress. Even in the caesarean, there was no panic, it was as good as gold.
'After the Point gig, I came back and spent a good hour with them.
We kind of held them on our chests for a while, it was really special.' He said he expected the twins would be kept in the hospital for at least another two weeks.
Meanwhile, new grandmother, Miriam Ahern is believed to be flying back from a break in Chile to see the new arrivals.
