“Right…I want this here…” Jodi pointed to an empty corner. The florist nodded and placed the flowers as instructed.
“Jodi…?” A familiar voice called out to Jodi. She frowned and turned around.
“Chel!!!” Jodi gave a wide grin and gave her best friend a hug. “When did you arrive? You could’ve called me, I’d have given you a ride!”
“Aww…I couldn’t. I just wanted to make sure I’d surprise you!” Nivelle Dumlao hugged her best friend back.
“Wow…it’s been like…five years since the last time we met?” Jodi held her friend at an arm’s length to see how much she’d changed.
Chel gave a nod and a laugh. “And now look at ya. All going to be married to a man. A world-famous guy from a boyband, no less,” she said.
“Ahh…did I hear boyband?” Kian walked towards his fiancée and gave her a peck on the cheek. “It’s a male vocal group. Care to introduce?”
“Chel, this is Kian, my fiancé. Ki, this is Chel, my long-lost best friend,” she joked. Chel gave a laugh.
“Nice meeting you Chel,” Kian took Chel’s hand in his and shook it.
“You too,” Chel replied back. “Ah well. So what’s happening around here?”
“Chaos. Total chaos. The cake is late, the banquet menu is still in ‘construction’, and my dress is still being altered.” Jodi shook her head.
“Hey Jods, where do you want t-…oh hello,” Shane came by with the early wedding gifts.
Chel turned shy immediately. She had heard of Westlife before of course, and this guy, Shane whatever his name is, is her favourite from the group. “Hello…Shane right?”
“Right.” Shane looked a bit surprised. “You listen to our music?”
“More like she idolizes you Shay. Look at how she turned all red in the cheeks and stuff,” Kian joked and gave Chel a little nudge. “This is Chel, Jodi’s best friend,”
“Hello Chel. Nice to meet you,” Shane reached out a free hand to shake hers. “Been here long?”
“I just arrived here a few minutes ago.”
“Ahhh. Anyway, Jods, these things?” he gestured to his other hand laden with shopping bags filled with wrapped gifts.
“What are those?” Kian peeked inside, curious.
“Early wedding gifts, I think,” Shane answered his friend. Kian looked up and raised his eyebrow at Jodi. Jodi shrugged.
“I think you can place them in my bedroom then Shay, thanks.”
“No problem!” Shane answered and with a final look at Chel, walked up the stairs to Jodi and Kian’s bedroom.
“He’s much more good looking in person, don’t ya think, eh, Chel?” Kian teased her again. Chel turned beetroot red once more.
“Ahh, Egan. Leave her be.” Jodi gave Kian a smack on the shoulder. “Let me bring you around and introduce you a bit to the others,”
“Sure,” Chel let out a sigh of relief to have her attention diverted to other things than that Shane whoever his name is.
